About this guide
This guide explains the settings in Crayon Trace for iPhone, iPad and Mac.
For the drawing tools and how a level works, see How to play.
Open Settings
From the title screen, open Settings. Changes take effect and save as soon as you choose them. There is no separate Save button.
Choose a difficulty
On first play, choose one of six modes. You can change it later in Settings. A preset sets three things together: how strict scoring is, how many stars you need to continue, and how long the trace guide remains visible.
Free Drawing has no score and its guide never fades. Easy needs 1 star and its guide never fades. Moderate needs 3 stars and takes 120 seconds to fade. Hard needs 3 stars and takes 80 seconds to fade. Crazy Hard needs 4 stars and takes 60 seconds to fade. Impossible needs 5 stars and takes 30 seconds to fade.
In Settings, changing difficulty, including switching to or from Free Drawing, asks for a parent check and confirmation. It resets earned stars and unlocked levels, but keeps saved drawings. Each difficulty has its own drawings; switch back to see them again.
Starting settings
Starting choices: your device language if supported, otherwise English; right-handed layout; music 35%; sound effects 100%; magnifier and Inside Lines off; the middle of five line widths. Stars needed and guide-fade time depend on difficulty. Saved choices take priority.
Crayon Trace on Mac
Crayon Trace has its own Mac app. Draw with a mouse or trackpad. On the title screen, Tab or Down reaches Quit, and Escape goes back.
Language and handedness
Use the Language arrows to cycle through the available languages. Your choice is remembered. Choose Left or Right under Handedness to change which hand holds the on-screen crayon; Right is the starting choice.
Music and sound effects
Use minus or plus in the Music row to change background music. Use the Sound Effects row for tool and drawing sounds. Each row has a six-segment meter. Take a meter to zero to silence that sound group.
Trace Fade
The guide starts fading at your first mark. Adjust how long it takes in Settings. At zero it disappears immediately; at the maximum it stays visible. Easy and Free Drawing keep it visible. The starting time depends on difficulty; 120 seconds is the Moderate default.
Inside lines
Switch on Inside Lines in the wooden toolbox for help following lines and staying in the area where you start a stroke. It is available on every level and difficulty, and starts off. Lift the crayon to begin elsewhere. The paint bucket works separately.
Stroke Width and Magnifying Glass
Choose from five manual line widths in the wooden toolbox on iPhone, iPad and Mac. On supported iPads, Apple Pencil pressure also changes crayon width. Magnifying Glass is a drawing-screen button, not a Settings row. It starts off on every device, and you can switch it on while drawing.
Reset settings or progress
In Settings, Reset settings asks for a parent check and confirmation. It restores the starting choices above, including language, sound and tools, and your difficulty's starting values. Your difficulty, stars and drawings stay.
In Settings, Reset progress asks for a parent check and confirmation. It clears earned stars and level unlocks, but keeps saved drawings and other settings. You choose a difficulty again when you next play.
